The catalogues of mail-order companies and furniture shops reveal an inspiring world. Not only do they present new furnishings – they also show their ideal application site: luxurious appartments and houses, whose flair can be brought to one’s own home by purchasing a new sofa or bed. In addition, an impression can sometimes also be gleaned of the inhabitants of these lifestyle dreams, thereby leading to questions about who these people are, in which moment of their lives they are captured and what their stories might be.
This is where the work of the Institute of Inter-witted Research begins. The names of those depicted can usually be guessed easily, but their biographies and adventures are always subject to various hypotheses.
Donne, Sofi e Giardini is an ongoing project, which is mainly conceived as a reading performance. Thus far, 20 stories have emerged, based on 10 catalogue illustrations. Two of them are presented here exemplarily. The stories are written and performed in German only.
